In a move that goes against the party leadersip, Labour MP Clive Lewis has called for a second referendum. Writing in the Guardian, Mr. Lewis, and fellow MP Rachael Maskell outline their plans to hold a referendum on the final Brexit deal, rather than another in/out vote.
This is likely to exacerbate divisions within the Labour party, especially considering a statement from Jeremy Corbyn’s office has said that ‘a second referendum is not our policy and it won’t be in our manifesto’.
The belief that voters should have a say on the terms of Brexit, could potentially be a vote winner, but in this case, going against the party leader may do more harm than good.
