Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has promised to put an end to zero-hours contracts, in an attempt to appeal to voters affected by what the party calls ‘the rigged economy’.
Other proposals include a ban on unpaid internships, a minimum wage increase, and the doubling of paid paternity leave.
The public sector pay cap will also be scrapped.
These policies are part of Labour’s recently released 20-point plan, which has been praised by Union Leader Len McCluskey as ‘the antidote to the uncertainty and insecurity which plagues working life for millions in the UK’
Critics would argue that these policies are unaffordable and anti-business, while opinion polls still suggest a comfortable Conservative victory on June 8th.
