Labour peer Lord Levy has donated £5000 to the re-election campaign of John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons.
Mr. Bercow is standing in Buckingham, and will again seek to be Speaker, a role which by convention is politically neutral.
He took the job in 2009, having previously been a conservative MP, which makes this donation by Lord Levy, Tony Blair’s former chief fundraiser, seem slightly odd.
Property tycoon and Labour donor Sir David Garrard has also given £5000 to the Bercow campaign.
MPs will decide who becomes Speaker at the first meeting after the General Election.
