Former Lib Dem MP Vince Cable is urging the party to consider working with pro-remain Labour candidates, in an attempt to block the Conservatives.
This is despite the fact that party leader Tim Farron has ruled out any kind of ‘progressive alliance’ with Labour, preferring instead to pitch the Lib Dems as the true party of opposition.
UKIP has adopted a tactical voting strategy in some areas, refusing to field candidates against pro-Brexit Tories, so in the short term, Mr. Cable’s idea may be the only way to prevent a Conservative landslide on June 8th.
Many Lib Dems will be concerned about the prospect of working with rival parties though, as they suffered huge losses after being part of the coalition government, led by David Cameron.
