Kelvin MacKenzie retires from journalism to open a cafe in Liverpool

Former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie has announced his retirement from journalism, revealing plans to open a cafe in Liverpool instead. In a statement on Facebook, Mr MacKenzie said:

‘After forty years at the cutting edge of journalism, it’s time to step aside and let the younger generation take over. I’ve had a great career, but I’m getting on a bit, and want a slower, less stressful pace of life’.

‘I’ve always fancied opening a little cafe, and I’ve got a bit of money saved up, so why not?’.

‘And what better place to choose than Liverpool, one of my favourite British cities?’.

‘Picture the scene: Me standing behind the counter, bantering back and forth with my salt of the earth, working class, scouse customers. We’ll have a great time’.

‘They’ve always liked me in Liverpool’.
