A series of protests against President Trump have cost British police £290,000. This includes:
£89,000 on the ‘Stop Trump’ march outside the US embassy, to protest the Muslim ban.
£70,000 for the ‘Women’s March’, on the president’s inauguration day.
£130,000 on two further travel ban protests.
More demonstrations are expected later in the year, during a planned UK state visit from the President.
Scotland Yard refused to comment on these specific protests, but did say:
‘The cost of policing each event will vary depending on the type and level of police resources used, as well as the duration of the event’.
The threat of terrorism is also a factor when allocating police resources.
