Former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has attacked Labour’s promise to end tuition fees, saying it is the ‘wrong time now’.
Mr. Clegg famously promised to abolish tuition fees, but then reversed this pledge after going into coalition with the Tories, making today’s comments seem somewhat hypocritical.
Mr Clegg defended his position, saying of Labour:
‘I don’t think they can pay for it. I personally think it is the wrong choice now, it is wrong to now provide 11 billion pounds, a lot of it coming from people who have never been to university’.
He also accused the Labour party of offering ‘hyped up, retail politics’.
