Researchers at Harvard University have confirmed that flamingos standing on one leg were ‘just showing off for the cameras’. Scientists had previously thought this habit was a way of saving energy, but now realise the animals are simply ‘desperate for attention’.
‘They just want the public to notice them’, said a Harvard spokesman.
‘Being bright pink doesn’t quite satisfy this need, so they have to stand on one leg as well’.
‘We are advising the public to stop taking photographs, as it only encourages this behaviour’.
‘That should bring them down a peg or two’.
This news comes just days after a professor at Oxford announced that zebras were only covered in stripes ‘so they can post selfies on Instagram to get more likes’.
