Speaking to an audience of 70,000 in Berlin, Barack Obama said:
‘The world order is at a crossroads. In this new world we live in, we can’t isolate ourselves, we can’t hide behind a wall’.
Mr. Obama also defended Chancellor Merkel’s refugee policy.
‘In the eyes of God, the child on the other side of the border deserves no less love and compassion than my own’.
He also spoke about the need to fight back against the rise of nationalism, saying ‘We have to push back against those trends that would violate human rights or suppress democracy or restrict individual freedoms’.
