A Grimsby man was arrested for carrying a sharp pencil outside a mosque, as police decided it could potentially be used as ‘an offensive weapon’.
The man, Jake Jones, reportedly told a police officer he had the pencil so he could ‘stab someone if I needed to – I don’t mean you’.
At Grimsby Magistrate’s Court, the official charge read:
‘At Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, had with you in a public place an offensive weapon, namely a sharp pointed pencil’
The police were called out to investigate the man’s ‘suspicious activity’ near the mosque, just hours after the Manchester terror attack.
