[100 word news] – ‘Hard Brexit has no mandate. By pursuing a more moderate Brexit, Mrs May’s last act could still be her finest’, says Nick Clegg

Former Deputy PM Nick Clegg has urged Theresa May to change her position on Brexit, saying:

‘Hard Brexit has no mandate. By pursuing a more moderate Brexit, Mrs May’s last act could still be her finest’.

‘Only a soft Brexit will now command the majority she needs in parliament’.

Mr. Clegg also suggested that the PM should ‘break with the right wing media cabal and Brexit-obsessed backbenchers who have held her hostage. They lost the election as much as she did. She has nothing to lose, so she might as well do the right thing in the time she has available’.

‘Voters have had enough of being treated as bit-players in the Conservative party’s self-absorbed psycho drama about Europe’.

  1. I wish Clegg and other Remainers would stop bleating on about a “hard” Brexit and tell the people what they mean by a “soft” Brexit. If it means staying in the Single Market and Customs Union and therefore continuing to pay into the EU budget, if it means continuing to allow the free movement of people and therefore the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice then that is not so much a “soft” Brexit as no Brexit at all! But, then, isn’t that what they really want!
