Michale Heseltine has said that leaving the EU is now ‘open to question’ after Theresa May failed to get a majority in the recent general election.
‘The idea of a hard Brexit is not credible’.
‘We have a split cabinet, we have a split country’.
Lord Heseltine went on to say that Brexit was dead, ‘in the sense that we’re going to leave the whole thing and be our own independent, sovereign nation’.
‘That is simply not the way the world is working today’.
He also said it was ‘not conceivable’ that Theresa May would fight another election, and that her priority should be finding ‘the best possible successor for the Conservative Party’.
