Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow has today announced that MPs will no longer be required to wear trousers while in the chamber, calling them ‘outdated, restrictive, and a throwback to a forgotten era’.
‘It’s 2017, it’s the middle of summer – why should elected officials be required to wear trousers?’
‘Surely shorts are more than acceptable?’
‘Female MPs will of course be allowed to wear trousers if they wish. It’s 2017, women can wear whatever they want’.
When asked if men would be allowed to wear skirts, Mr. Bercow said:
‘It’s 2017, of course men can wear skirts’.
