[100 word news] – Javid on Grenfell tragedy: ‘Jeremy Corbyn has treated this like a political football’

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has accused Jeremy Corbyn of playing ‘political football’ with the Grenfell Tower fire, after the Labour leader suggested cuts may have played a role in the tragedy.

‘I’m afraid that Jeremy Corbyn has treated this like a bit of political football, and that is a shame’.

‘Let’s all be honest. Let’s be honest with the public. That’s what the public deserve’.

‘There have been mistakes, and the inquiry will probably show this under successive governments of all political colours, in both local government and national government, and if we are truly to learn the lessons of this, there’s no point in kicking this around as some kind of football’.

  1. Perhaps Jeremy considers it a political issue becanse the rapid spred of the fire was, and I’m sure it will be proved eventualy, a direct resolt of decisions made on spending and health and safty issues at a political level over the past 7 years. The Buck stops with the Government, I have no doubt about that. While the government remains in denial they will loose more and more respect and credibility, they are no fit to govern and should stand down forthwith.
