Plans to build a 10ft high statue of Margaret Thatcher in Parliament Square have been derailed over vandalism concerns.
In 2002 a protestor decapitated a statue of the former PM which was on display at London’s Guildhall Library.
Theresa May told reporters at the G20 meeting: ‘What I’m very clear about is there should be no suggestion that the threat of vandalism should stop a statue of Margaret Thatcher from being put up’.
Labour Chairman Ian Lavery objected to the proposal, saying a statue of Mrs. Thatcher would ‘be seen as an insult to those whose communities and livelihoods were destroyed under her premiership’.
