Environment secretary Michael Gove has argued that leaving the EU means ‘there is an opportunity for us to reshape environmental regulation’.
In a speech hosted by the Green Alliance think tank, Mr Gove said:
‘We have an opportunity to ensure that we can develop the institutions and mechanisms the world will look to and admire as the most effective for protecting our environment and enhancing our countryside’.
Mr Gove also called Brexit a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ chance to make the world ‘greener, cleaner, better, richer’.
‘We have an opportunity to be global leaders in the fight against climate change’.
