Former chancellor Norman Lamont has said the cabinet could ‘collapse in chaos’, unless ministers stop leaking to the press.
‘This is not good for the government. The cabinet will collapse in chaos if there isn’t more collective unity’.
‘These discussions ought to be in private, and briefing on this scale is unprecedented’.
‘It’s very dangerous, and I think cabinet ministers are playing with fire’.
These comments come after Philip Hammond said that recent newspaper stories accusing him of saying public sector workers were ‘overpaid’, and that ‘even a woman can drive a train’, were leaked to the press by his colleagues in the cabinet.
