President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte has met with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to discuss the ongoing battle against ISIS linked militants on the island of Mindanao.
‘We are providing the Philippines with some training and some guidance in terms of how to deal with an enemy that fights in ways that most people have never had to deal with’, said Mr. Tillerson.
‘Bringing our knowledge in how to deal with this enemy in other parts of the world is useful to them, and I think that is also in our security interests as well’.
When asked whether it was acceptable to provide assistance to a leader who’s war on drugs has been responsible for over 7000 deaths, Mr. Tillerson said:
‘I see no conflict at all in our helping them with that situation, and our views on other human rights concerns that we have in how they carry out their counter-narcotics activities’.
