Amazon pays £15 million tax on £19 billion of European sales

Figures released by Amazon show the corporation has paid £15 million in taxes, from overall European sales of £19 billion.

The company’s headquarters are based in Luxembourg, prompting Lib Dem leader Vince Cable to accuse them of ‘taking the Government for a ride’.

A spokesman for Amazon said that the company ‘pays all the taxes that are required by every country where we operate’.

‘We operate a pan-European business from our headquarters in Luxembourg where we have over 1,500 employees and growing, including our senior leadership team’.

‘We’ve invested over €20bn in Europe since 2010, and expect to hire 15,000 new employees this year, bringing our total permanent European workforce to over 65,000 people’.
